Vuvulane Orphans & Vulnerable Children’s Outreach Foundation (VOVCOF) is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) – a community/volunteer-run organisation with no wage incentive or full-time staff – based in Vuvulane, Lubombo region, Eswatini. It was founded in 2008 by the Msweli family members, who are sugarcane farmers and active residents of Vuvulane. The NPO has a core focus on caring for the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children in Vuvulane, by providing adequate health and nutrition – through a soup kitchen that has an organic vegetable garden, a clean ablution facility, and a low-cost eco-housing project.

Why Vuvulane?

Vuvulane is a sugarcane growing agricultural town, located in the hot and dry northeast Lubombo region of Eswatini with a high rate of poverty. Vuvulane was established in the late 1950s, before Eswatini’s independence in 1968.

Please journey with us as we do more for the Vuvulane community!

Vision

To provide hope through health, nutritional support and quality early childhood education.

Mission Pillars

Dignity

Restoration of dignity in our community, which is a fundamental human right allowing access to quality education, health care, nutrition, clothing, and shelter.

Sustainability

We thrive to be self-reliant by promoting projects that will not only serve today but also serve us in the future. Permaculture principles guide our decisions.

Resilience

Making sure that what we implement is self-sustaining, ecologically friendly, future-proof, and offers hope of meaningful living.

Timeline

Our journey started out of love and the urgency to offer a helping hand in the Vuvulane community and give children hope for a better future. As we see the years pass, we are inspired to continue sharing love, hope, and endless possibilities in a community that never gives up.

2008

Inspiration

The ever curious and beautiful children of Vuvulane. It was time to offer them hope and a better chance in life.

Initial Launch

VOVCOF was officially registered and launched as an NPO. We gained more confidence in carrying out our mission, practicing all measures of transparency and accountability.

First Completed Project – Soup Kitchen

Our first priority is to make sure that no child goes to bed hungry. In 2013, we built a beautiful and efficient soup kitchen equipped with a gas burning stove, running water, flushing toilet, a rainwater-collecting facility for the garden, and a clean dining area.

Major Milestone: 10 Years Working in Vuvulane

In the first 10 years of working in Vuvuvlane, we have implemented a soup kitchen, hygienic ablution facility, and access to affordable housing. We have formed relationships with international organisations such as UNDP, and have secured funding from WFP, the U.S. Embassy in Eswatini, and Art Aid, amongst others.
